Reward of Humility

Exo. 3:13 And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is His name? what shall I say unto them? 14 And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and He said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you. 15 And God said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, the LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you: this is My name for ever, and this is My memorial unto all generations.

Back in the Disco Days, there was an old storeowner in the Black community who was selling fake rabbit coats. One day a neighborhood tough kid enters the store and asked, “how much you selling these coats fo’?” The kindly old man said, “well, young man, these coats only cost $39.00.” The kid said, “man, I‘m only givin’ you $29.00,” and threw three $10 bills on the counter. He then leaves saying, “keep the change.”

The kid runs into one of his boys and told him of this deal, who performed the same thing to the old man. Other “toughs” repeated this transaction, and at the end of the day they all presented their girls with a fake rabbit coat. When the old man got home he gave his wife a mink stole from money gained from the toughs!

This story illuminates the verse – Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth (Mat. 5:5). By his humility, the old man ends up with a greater blessing than the “toughs”, and illustrates why God expects His people to exhibit meekness. Moreover, God expects us to fulfill our purpose which He reveals to us when we are humble. As long as we maintain faith in our abilities alone, we are like the “toughs” and can not see the pattern (conceptualize, classify, cultivate, commision, crowns) God utilizes. Furthermore God, whose plan includes blessing us, gets no glory with “toughs”! The KEY SCRIPTURE states that His name is “I AM THAT I AM”, establishing Him as the True God. He is the God of old and for ALL generations, and thus He is able to assure us of the promise of life!

We are being called to do what Moses did, and that’s to get God’s people freed from their “Egypt”. That’s why it is vitally important that we hear, and then adhere to the principles of the Word of God! No matter what situation we’re in now, we must praise, be unalterable, study, and honor Him in our thoughts, speech, and actions.
